ESC Congress, Chronicles Preatenienses - 2
day told in these pages the next Congress of the Confederation Euroepa Confederation (ETUC), convened in Athens on 16-19 May, with reference to the document for its preparation and work Athenians. Reading and discussion of this paper lead me to the following considerations:

is a very comprehensive document which is not easy reading, which probably has no remedy, although it would be desirable that it be incorporated clearly the meaning of debate that takes place in Athens, and that reflected in the final document to be adopted as a resolution for wider dissemination.

formal axis of the document is clearly Europe, but little could be seen as "Europe" in the measure which is not the right answer in my opoinión nationalist drift that has occurred with the crisis, not only in the economic policy of many governments, trends not only manifest in public opinion but also in the approaches and union practices, demonstrations and even xenophobic chauvinists to which we must not remain silent. Against this, the face of pressure from the European institutions that pose obvious cuts European social model, there has been no response to trends resistencialistas, asilacionistas and suicidal. Responses required by government proposals based on European union mobilization around common objectives and solidarity of the European working class. On the contents I refer to the documents of our seminar ("European Social Model and the European Trade Unionism") of the Observatory "Unionism in Globalization Foundation May 1 CCOO, are also listed in this blog. -
precisely why it is striking that while all the chapters begin with "no ...", mobilization none developed to analyze the demonstrations last year in Europe. mobilizations numerous, but scattered in time and in content, of doubtful effectiveness to change European policy. And the surprise is emphasized to ensure there are no looks at all the day action of 29-S, a "European day of action" which resulted in Spain no less than in a general strike called by the CCOO and UGT. From Europe, from the "North", in addressing the global trade union action, we can not fail to stress the special role and responsibility of trade unionism in the matrices of multinational companies projected its entire production and distribution chain. We should not forget that 50% of the world's working class works in these structures. -
I think, finally, that the Congress should analyze what the document does not address base: the organizational crisis experienced by the ESC in its final stage, with the resignations that have left its Secretariat box, when you need a CES stronger European trade unionism more visibility. Surely this requires addressing another subject that seems taboo, that of the necessary delegation of powers from national labor movements. Clear that this is also required greater democracy, not only in form but also in content, surpassing the reality of "one € uro, one vote" (on the basis of contributions paid) that seems to preside over the decision-making.
