Complementing the article on unionism in the emerging countries, based on the 26th April in this blog, I find it interesting comment on the information coming from Vietnam on the development of strikes in that country.
This could already generate interest, but this is greater if one takes into account that it is a balance published in the official newspaper (although in English) "Vietnam News" of April 21, and expressing views expressed by the Deputy Minister of Labour of the country Phan Minh Huan at a seminar, also an officer, developed the previous day.
"The current labor law does not solve labor disputes," said Mr. Vice. And it provides data and considerations of interest:
After noting that since 1995 there have been 3,000 strikes in the country laws, says that most conflicts end in strikes "not legal" because the workers prefer to avoid the procedure established by law. And this (prominently remembered for the same newspaper) is precisely equal to that for Cuba and China in the aforementioned article: from conflict to mediation and arbitration this (automatic, ie mandatory) if there is no agreement, leaving no room for union activity and to strike it.
But the strikes are given, and the phenomenon spreads because they get victories. And the government tolerates it because it does not compare directly with the employees of private enterprises (mostly in textiles), we were told the official trade union leaders last fall at the time of our visit to the country.
to endorse these criteria we just got the information that this week, on Tuesday, 26 specifically, it has initiated a strike at Vietnam Footwear Stateway Chinese capital of Taiwan, a shoe factory in Haiphong 1.3oo workers demanding higher wages and improvements in the food.
